2023 Taiwan Society of Gene Therapy Founding Conference
Medical technology is advancing at an unimaginable speed. Just like gene therapy was only regarded as a theory of biotechnology in the past when medical students, it was difficult to imagine how it could be applied to the treatment of human diseases.
For some diseases caused by single gene mutations, it is hoped that gene therapy will change the way patients are cared for in the past, and the lives of patients can also be greatly improved. For example: gene therapy for hemophilia patients has shown good results in most hemophilia patients; in addition, Wilson's disease in the hepatobiliary and gastrointestinal fields and Qiu Xin's muscular dystrophy in the neurological field have good results. There is potential to improve the quality of life of patients through gene therapy. It is expected that the establishment of the Taiwan Gene Therapy Society will provide Taiwan with relevant suggestions in the field of gene therapy and serve as a reference for medical education.
